Election day in America, at last
Today is Tuesday 4th November 2008, America stands on the threshold of a dream, it is the day of the American General Election. The talking is all over, and now, heaven help them, those that have not yet voted, but still want to, must grasp the opportunity to express their wishes.
It has been said that their choices can be portrayed like this:-
On one hand they have an elderly white man whose policies have been described as yet more George W Bush and his running mate, a youngish white woman, unqualified for the job.
On the other hand is a relatively young and inexperienced, mixed race man who has proved to be a phenomenal orator. His running mate is a more senior and experienced white man with considerable credibility.
All the opinion polls are showing that America is more likely to be getting its first “black” President than its first woman Vice President.
Pundits continue to debate, hedge their bets and say that it is by no means certain that Obama will win. While none will say anything for certain, basically they say it is unlikely for so many polls to be wrong, but there have been shock results in the past, and so on.
The only thing that is certain is that by Wednesday night we will know…. probably.

So, I woke up this morning and they have chosen the other hand, as we knew they would. No hanging chads, dodgy recounts or other nonsense. John McCain has graciously conceded and the deed is done. It is time now for some mature reflection on what this means for the world, because the person elected by the citizens of the USA is the leader of the free world, have no doubt, and as such impacts on us all. G-d bless America.
